Let's Learn Konglish Part 2 KongLish is interesting, right? As we've mentioned in Part 1, it signifies Korean Expressions to a Better English. KongLish phrases and vocabularies are rooted from a direct translation of a movements, actions, appearances or things which could lead to an erroneous usage or application if used to native english speakers. Konglish is a natural terminologies, a great inventions to express their thoughts openly that every Koreans could understand. However, a language barrier occurs if a foreigner would not be informed on the meaning of KongLish Expressions. It could be misinterpreted that would lead to double meaning. Well, because I love Koreans then I love Konglish as well, its right meaning and usage must be properly taught for a better globalize communication. Hereunder are the following KongLish that I encountered during my stay in Korea; 14. Waiter, is this a 서비스? 서비스 (Service) [For Korean, they mean "Free of charge, on the house"] 15. I missed place the 리모콘 of my 에어컨, so, when I turned on my 스탠드 again to look for it then I found out being covered by my pillow. 리모콘 (Remocon) [For Korean, they mean "Remote Control”] 에어컨(Aircon) [For Korean, they mean "Air Conditioner"] 스탠드 (Stand) [For Korean, they mean "Lamp"] 16. Do you live in a 맨션 or 아파트? 맨션 (Mansion) [For Korean, they mean "Luxury(?) apartment building”] 아파트(Apart) [For Korean, they mean "Apartment”] 17. Before I was been living in 원룸... 원룸(One Room) [For Korean, they mean "A bachelor-style studio apartment”] 18. However, yesterday i moved in an 오피스텔 together with my friend? 오피스텔 (OfficeTel) [For Korean, they mean "Usually a small, modern room that has basic facilities including a kitchenette and a bathroom with a shower”] 19. I lost my job, so, I am now 셔터맨. 셔터맨 (Shutter Man) [For Korean, they mean "A derogatory term for a man who is financially dependent on his wife(?)”] 20. My girlfriend likes to watch 멜로 TV series. 멜로 (Melo) [For Korean, they mean "Romantic Drama”] 21. Can you please give me one bottle of 사이다, please. 사이다(Cider) [For Korean, they mean "Soda like 7-Up or Sprite”] 22. Come on, let's go! There's a great 이벤트 today. 이벤트 (Event) [For Korean, they mean "Promotional event, special (i.e. pizza specials)”] 23. Nope, I am so tired now. I can't join 헌팅. 헌팅(Hunting (Women)) [For Korean, they mean "Hunting is used to describe picking up women”] 24. Ride with me on my 오토바이. 오토바이(Autobi) [For Korean, they mean a general for an “Motorcycle”] 25. Okay, I'll be wearing a 와이셔츠 only. 와이셔츠(Y Shirt) [For Korean, they mean “Dress shirt, button up shirt”] 26.
